Our COO, Marcus Oesterberg, wrote the guest editorial in this month’s Journal of Petroleum Technology.
His argument is simple: geothermal projects rarely fail because the heat is missing. They fail because risk is taken in the wrong order.
The piece lays out how a project should be sequenced. Resolve the geological uncertainty in the early phases, while they are still cheap. Bring in each class of capital, from venture through project finance, only once the remaining risk matches its appetite. It is the approach behind every prospect in the Ignis portfolio.
None of this is a new skill set. The petroleum industry has spent a hundred years building it, and geothermal is where it gets applied next.
